  • 4 .. From Joe Browns at Capel Curig to Port Penhryn at Bangor

From Joe Browns at Capel Curig to Port Penhryn at Bangor

This is a beautiful day ride down the Ogwen valley, from mountains to sea. This is a linear ride not a circular ride so arrangements need to be made to return to Betws y Coed. Beics Betws can transport 5 people and their bikes to the starting point at Joe Browns in Capel Curig and meet everybody when they arrive at Port Penhryn (Bangor). From here Beics Betws can transport bikes and riders back to Betws y Coed. There is a £20 charge for this service. The ride starts on a rough track up the Ogwen valley to Llyn Ogwen at the base of the famous mountain of Tryfan. This valley has a dramatic rough and barren landscape to begin with and then becomes a wide and smooth fertile valley with mountains on both sides. There is a short stretch of road (A5) which is a shared useage for cycles and motor vehicles. It is possible to walk the bikes on a foot pavement beside Llyn Ogwen if the traffic is heavy. There is a small cafe and visitor centre at the end of Llyn Ogwen, after this point the rest of the ride is completed off-road and is mostly all down hill to the sea which is approximately 15km distant. The ride uses repurposed slate railway tracks to provide the cycle track to the sea. The original railtrack runs from the Slate quarries (some still used) to Tregarth where there is a renovated lit tunnel for the use of bikes. From here it is all down hill for 7km. When riders (Customers) have exited the tunnel they should telephone Beics Betws at this point so that we know its now time for us to leave Betws y Coed with the transportation for the Rendezvous at Port Penhryn
